Holiday Cacao Nog

A Christmas season tradition in the USA and Canada, Egg Nog is an official holiday treat in many families, tied, of course, with a warm cup of cocoa. So what could be better than combining the two, using Keith's Cacao, for a new kind of holiday bliss. With a lighter, creamier base, this recipe is a tradition to be shared from the heart. 

Of all the Christmas drink ideas, eggnog might just be the most festive and seasonal of all. Whether it is a holiday party, dinner with family, or even just a personal choice, there is something special about pouring a glass of eggnog at Christmas Time. 

According to a detailed history of the drink, shared by Time Magazine, eggnog actually originated in medieval Britain - an evolution of a drink made with ale and milk called a posset, which over time evolved to include ingredients such as figs and egg. 

There doesn't seem to be a middle ground on eggnog. You either love it or hate it! But since everything tastes better with Keith's Cacao, we are confident that this twist on traditional homemade eggnog will both delight the enthusiastic advocates and convert the deniers!

Thanks to the butter in Keith's Cacao, this thick and deliciously creamy holiday nog is absolutely irresistible! The almond milk adds a slightly nutty flavor to it, made even more interesting by the play between the sweetness of vanilla and the more pungent taste and scent of nutmeg and cinnamon. 

You are, of course, free to experiment with other spices such as clove and substitute the almond milk with any other plant-based milk; but, we think it's perfect just as it is! Holiday Cacao Nog

  • 1 oz. Keith's Cacao
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • Honey (or sweetener) to taste
  • 12 fl. oz. Almond Milk
  • Pinch of Nutmeg
  • ⅛ tsp Vanilla
  • ⅛ tsp Cinnamon
  • ⅛ Pinch of Salt


  1. Chop your cacao and set it aside.
  2. In a bowl or cup, add yolk and honey, mix well, and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, heat almond milk, vanilla, spices, and salt.
  4. Once warm, slowly "temper" your egg mixture: to do this begin mixing your egg and honey mix while slowly adding a stream of warm liquid. If the mixture is too hot, it can "scramble" your egg. Continue adding the liquid until about 1/4 of the liquid is used.
  5. Add the tempered egg mixture back to the pan and stir to the desired heat. The mixture may thicken slightly.
  6. Add your cacao to a blender, pour your liquid over the top, and blend.
  7. Pour in your favorite mug and garnish with a dash of fresh nutmeg!
